Bangladesh regains internet connectivity

Dhaka, Apr 18 (bdnews24.com) – Bangladesh's internet connectivity was restored to its full capacity at 2 pm on Sunday.
A fault in a submarine cable on the 14 April resulted in Bangladesh losing all its internet communication with countries to the west of the cable including Europe.
The fault was repaired by Mango Teleservices Limited, an International Internet Gateway (IIG) operator in Bangladesh.
The company said in a press release that the problem was detected in the cable between Alexandria and Marseilles.
A senior official at the BTCL's submarine cable project had told bdnews24.com on Apr 15 that a short circuit at the Italian landing station at Palermo had caused the problem.
On Dec 21, 2008 Bangladesh faced a similar kind of connectivity disruption, which was restored after 18 hours.

Experts speak about submarine cable at NSU

A Seminar on "Fibre Optic Submarine Cable: Present Status & Future Prospects" was held at North South University on Wednesday, November 18th. The Keynote speaker was Dr. Satya Prasad Majumder, Professor and Former Chairman, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, BUET. Dr. Majumder gave the attendants a complete overview on the current submarine cable system that Bangladesh is connected with. He spoke about the limitations of the current network and gave his suggestions for future development. His speech was followed by the guest speaker of the programme, Mir Masud Kabir, Managing Director of Mango Teleservices Limited. Kabir gave a demonstration of the fibre optic network that Mango in operating inside the country in order to provide International Internet Gateway service to the ISPs.
He also spoke about the possibilities of the telecommunication sector of our country and the drawbacks of our current regulatory system that needs to be reviewed as soon as possible. The seminar was attended by the faculties and students of NSU. NSU Wireless Forum, a telecommunication based club of NSU, was the organiser of the seminar.

Mango restores internet capacity

Mango Teleservices Ltd, the lone private sector International Internet Gateway (IIG) of the country, has successfully mitigated a disaster in the submarine cable systems in the shortest possible time.
It now provides high quality internet services to the nation after restoring the total capacity on Saturday without affecting its customers, according to a press statement.
As an unprecedented occurrence, three submarine cable systems (SMW3, SMW4 and FLAG) were damaged between Italy and Egypt in the Mediterranean Sea on Friday.
